Yesssss! A win to finish with

What a performance for the last game! We won 22-12 against Finland, and finish at the 7th place.

Suddenly, everything was working perfectly, tackles were strong, defense line in place, attacks were agressive and explosive!

The work prior to the game paid off!

Starting team: Tonje, Ingrid, Kari, Karin, Ragnhild, Kathrine, Gina.

Subs: Ine and Rebecca came in during the 2nd half.

Tries: Kari, Tonje, Gina (2)

Conversion: Ragnhild

Now come the last games and the banquet! We will celebrate a tough but successful weekend. Finishing 7th is a great result for us and for Norway!

We don’t work alone, we have the whole Norwegian rugby family behind us. Thanks to the Federation for their support, to the coaches in the clubs who work week after week with the players, to the players who were with us in the preparation, to our families. Thanks as well to our sponsor Bakerhuset. Many thanks to our manager Kirsten who couldn’t be with us this weekend but organized almost everything. I hope we make all of you proud!

Game 2 – hmmm

We lost game 2 big time… We had played Switzerland yesterday, it was a close game. Today, we were not there. It’s difficult to set the finger on something, we collapsed under the pressure. It’s not something we often see with the national team.

Starting team: Karoline, Ellen, Gina, Karin, Ragnhild, Tonje, Åsa.

Try: Tonje

All subs came in in the course of the game.

Trude is coach 1 for the last game. We play against Finland for the 7th place. She started with a short mental preparation session. We’re also changing the warm up routine, with more steering from the coach. It’s important that we try to find solutions, and never give up on trying to improve.

Karoline is injured, she strained her ankle. With a tournament in two weeks, we decided to not take the chance. It’s tough to lose the captain on a game where the mental is key, the last game of the tournament. The vice captain, Ragnhild, will lead the team.

Lost against Sweden

We lost our first game today against Sweden 39-0. We knew it would be mission impossible… Sweden is top seeded, it was a game between #1 and #8.

Starting team: Karoline, Gina, Ingrid, Kari, Ragnhild, Katherine, Åsa.

Subs: Ellen, Ine, Rebecca came in during the second half.

Next game is probably against Switzerland, it will be interesting to play them again. We’re now competing for rank 5 to 8.

Day 2 – program

We’re starting at 10:00 tomorrow morning (09:00 Norwegian time). We’re playing against… Sweden. Next game will be at 13:15 or 13:59 (12:15 or 12:59 Norwegian time) depending on the result of the first game. You can watch the streaming on Rugby Europe’s website.

Recap, day 1

We’re now back at the hotel after diner at a shopping center nearby. We went for McDonald’s, KFC++. The food at the hotel is not of the most enjoyable kind, I may say a bit more about that later.

The stadium was just next to an olympic swimming pool.Right after the last game, we treated ourselves with a 30min swim there. We were the only team there, surprisingly. For me who didn’t play, it was lovely, I can guess how great it felt for the players.

So, looking back at the first day of competition, I must say I am quite happy with what we achieved. We were ranked 11/12 this morning, started the tournament as a bottom seeded team in our pool. In other words, we were expected to struggle. Well, we did put up a good fight against the Netherlands, we won against Czech Republic, and were not far behind Switzerland. We scored tries in all three games, something we had not managed to do in Amsterdam.

We finished 3rd out of 4 in our pool. There were 3 pools. The first and second in each pools, in addition to the two best 3rd were going to the cup (top 8). The other four teams to the challenge (bottom 4). We were the second best 3rd, thanks to the victory against Czech Republic.

The atmosphere in the team is great. It’s not easy to play 3 games in a day, especially at that level, it’s tough physically and mentally. We had the ambition of competing, doing our best in all the games, which is a tough for the best players who don’t get breaks. It was a tough call, but it was worth it.

Tomorrow, we have the opportunity to keep climbing in the ranking. This is important both for the next tournament, in Hungary in two weeks, and for the next season.

One last things. Today was my birthday. I’m away from my family, it’s what we sign up for when working with the national team. But I had a great day, a day to remember! Looking forward to tomorrow.

We did lose our third game, but….

img_2548We lost our last game of the day, 14-22, against Switzerland. The girls gave everything, and made a great comeback in the second half after a difficult start, thanks, among others, to our super captain Karoline with 2 super tries after breaking through the defense line. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

However… due to complex tournament rules, we will compete for the top ranks tomorrow. It’s a success, well deserved.

Tries: Karoline (2)

Conversions: Ragnhild (2)

Starting team: Karoline, Ingrid, Tonje, Karin, Ragnhild, Kathrine, Ellen

All subs came in the second half.

We’re going for diner now, I’ll post some more pictures and info later.

A win!!!

Just finished game 2, against Czech Republic, we won 26-22! We made it a bit difficult for ourselves a couple of times, but we kept scoring thanks to good support play. Both teams scored 4 tries, we win thanks to the conversions scored by Ragnhild (3 vs 1).

Tries by Ragnhild, Åsa, Tonje (2).

Starting team: Karoline, Tonje, Gina, Ragnhild, Kari, Ellen.

Subs: Åsa, Ingrid
